Hartford House was built in 1835 by future Civil War General James S. Wadsworth. It was modeled after Lord Hertford's Villa in Regents Park, London which the General visited on his honeymoon. The three-story home features soaring 15 foot ceilings with intricate molding and fireplaces. Think about the background of scenes from Downton Abbey or The Crown and you won't be far off. The property is listed as a National Historic Landmark and is generally open seasonally from May through October. We are open to making special arrangements during the off-season, however, heating the 13,000 square foot house in a typical WNY Winter would be very expensive! There is also a 4 room Bed & Breakfast suite that can sleep 2-3, also open seasonally. The house sits on a 70 acre rural property with breathtaking vistas overlooking the Genesee Valley and features a number of gardens, an organic farm and a small tennis and croquet club. It is also available for outdoor weddings and other smaller events indoors.
